Manual Handling Course

The Manual Handling course is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to perform manual lifting and handling operations competently and safely in the work environment.
COURSE OBJECTIVE:
A third of all injuries in the workplace are the result of lifting or handling heavy or awkward loads. Injuries vary from mild aches and pains, to permanent disability and compensation. This is a hazard common to every workplace, whether it be an office, retails shop floor, warehouse, showroom, factory or construction site. The course is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to perform manual lifting and handling operations competently and safely in a work environment.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
This course is suitable for all employees who may be involved in manual handling as any part of their duties. Including staff from the: office, retail shop floor, depot & yard, sales representative, trade counter, checkout, etc.
PRIOR KNOWLEDGE:
An awareness of Health & Safety issues would be an advantage but not essential.
COURSE CONTENT:
– Basic functions of the spine, muscles & disks
– Recognise the key elements of safe lifting
– Understand how lifting aids & equipment can help reduce the risk of injury
– Identify good & bad lifting practice
– Appreciate the need to evaluate handling tasks to identify risks
– Know how musculo-skeletal injuries can occur and how to prevent them
– Solve a range of Manual Handling problems
– Select & use appropriate types of lifting & handling aids
– Carry out a range of complex handling tasks
– 20 minute Manual Warehouse Handling DVD
COURSE DURATION:
The course should take somewhere between 1 – ½ hours and will be interactive for participants.
INTENDED OUTCOME:
The risk of sustaining musculo-skeletal disorders at work can be greatly reduced if adequate and suitable training is provided in conjunction with other risk reducing methods.
Dr MARCUS McALLISTER BACKGROUND:
Dr Marcus McAllister (B. Chiropractic) is an expert in the knowledge of the musculoskeletal system (meaning the muscles, bones and joints) and nervous system (which coordinates all activities and functions) of the human body.
Dr McAllister studied for 6 years at University and is especially educated and trained in all dealings regarding the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the nerves, spine and all joints of the human body.
Dr McAllister is a fully qualified and licensed Chiropractic Radiographer and Radiologist (meaning not only can he take x-rays he can also read them).
Dr McAllister is an ACC Accredited Primary Healthcare Professional and has undergone ACC training in Preventing & Managing Discomfort, Pain & Injury.
